Today is Not Just about the Japanese

Today is a very special day.

It is the day that the Pennsylvania Hospital, the first hospital in the United States, was opened by Benjamin Franklin. The day that the first release of American prisoners of war from Vietnam takes place. Nelson Mandela was released from Victor Verster Prison outside Cape Town, South Africa after 27 years as a political prisoner on this particular day. The Space Shuttle Discovery was launched on a mission to service the Hubble Space Telescope. This is even the traditional date for the foundation of Japan by Emperor Jimmu.

I mean, really, a lot has happened on the 42nd day of our year.

All of that stuff was monumental, but I think the most important thing that has ever happened on February 11th was the birth of my Best Work Friend, Diane. It was a LOOOOONG time ago. Luckily, Ben Franklin had already opened his hospital, so D's mom had some place safe to bring her precious baby into the world.

I'm so glad that day happened, so that MANY years later I would be able to meet her and become her BWF. She's the icing on my work cake. I'm her Dolly Parton and she's my Kenny Rogers (shout out to "Islands in the Stream" - D's jam!!) We're the best work team that GHS has ever seen!!

Most folks only know her to be a wonderful wife and mom. She is indeed that...

But this is the REAL D!! This is the D that I get to work with every day! This is the D that makes me laugh until I cry. This is the D that let's me talk her into doing crazy things, like taking this pic. This is the D that I heart and thank God for!!
